NFPA 470 - HazMat Operations
![]() |
NFPA 470 HazMat Operations prepares responders to take defensive control actions at hazardous materials incidents while prioritizing safety for themselves, their crews, and the public. Building on the fundamentals learned at the Awareness level, this course dives deeper into hazard and risk assessment, defensive containment strategies, incident action planning, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Learners will practice skills such as establishing control zones, conducting product control using defensive tactics, setting up decontamination operations, and supporting incident command during HazMat events. The course emphasizes real-world application, safety-driven decision-making, and teamwork in dynamic hazard environments. HazMat Operations-trained responders form the backbone of effective hazardous materials response—capable of containing and mitigating threats until specialized teams take over. This course ensures participants are ready to operate confidently and competently in high-risk, high-consequence situations. *Suncrest reserves the right to cancel courses due to low enrollment. *Registration deadline is APRIL 2nd for ALL current offerings.
