NFPA 1140 - Wildland Firefighter Level I
![]() |
NFPA 1140 is the National Fire Protection Association’s consolidated standard for Wildland Fire Protection, created by combining four previous standards to improve clarity, consistency, and usability. This standard outlines the fundamental knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively combat wildland fires, with a strong emphasis on operations in the wildland–urban interface (WUI). The course introduces key concepts essential for wildland firefighting, including basic fire behavior, firefighter safety, methods of attack (such as backfiring and burnout operations), water and foam delivery systems, and air operations safety. Wildland incidents present significant risks to both firefighters and communities—particularly where homes and infrastructure border natural vegetation. NFPA 1140 equips firefighters with the critical skills and understanding needed to operate safely, protect property, and support effective wildfire suppression efforts. *Suncrest reserves the right to cancel courses due to low enrollment. *Registration deadline is MARCH 9th for all current offerings.
