NFPA 1081 – Incipient Level

NFPA 1081 is the Standard for Facility Fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications. It establishes the minimum Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) for different levels of facility fire brigade members, including the Incipient Level.

Training for the incipient facility fire brigade member focuses on the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to safely attack incipient (early stage) fires only. Incipient fire brigade members are not required to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or thermal protective clothing so they must be able to safely combat a fire without having to enter an environment that is Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

In this course, students will learn how to recognize and assess incipient stage fires, fight the fire effectively using only portable fire extinguishers. small handlines and master streams, activate facility fire protection systems, communicate emergencies and follow SOPs, exit hazardous areas when conditions worsen and more.

At the end of the course, participants are required to complete a written exam (minimum 70% pass requirement) and practical evaluation. Successful students will receive IFSAC certification issued by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency

Please note that each course must meet a minimum number of participants to run. If the minimum isn’t met, the class will unfortunately have to be canceled. Because some courses require travel, we want you to be aware of this possibility in advance. We will notify you as early as possible if a cancellation is necessary.
