NFPA 1006 outlines the standards for technical rescue personnel, including responders trained at the Rope Rescue Awareness level. This course is designed for first responders who may assist during a rope rescue event but are not responsible for rigging systems or performing hands-on patient movement.

Learners will gain the ability to recognize when rope rescue operations are required, understand essential concepts and terminology, identify hazards, and determine what resources are needed. Rope rescue is a highly specialized discipline that can occur in a wide range of environments—including towers, elevated structures, water and ice conditions, and confined spaces.

This awareness-level training ensures responders can safely support rescue teams, enhance scene coordination, and contribute to an effective emergency response.
